GLP1 Advocate, Consumer, & Educator

My Story:

My entire life had been spent as an athlete; high school and then college.  However, after college I started gaining weight which sparked years of yo-yo dieting, losing weight and gaining it back (plus more).   My phone had become a reel of 'before photos' of  my body getting larger and larger, with no 'after photos' to accompany them.

In 2020-21, during the midst of the pandemic, weighing over 222lbs, I lost approximately 50lbs and in 2022 had an abdominoplasty to remove the excess skin, as well as, repair the muscles in my abdomen from years of weight gain and pregnancy.  Two months after my surgery, my father unexpectedly passed away as a result of complications from diabetes/obesity.   During my time of grief, I gained almost every single pound back that I had lost.

Desperate not to have the same fate as my dad, in 2023 I started doing research about GLP1s. I started by consulting my Primary Care Physician about the medications, only to be met with resistance, no insurance coverage, and uneducated opinions.   At 205.6lbs and desperate to lose weight I started looking into other options.  A friend told me about an obesity tele-health clinic she was using, I set up an appointment and started researching everything I could find about GLP1 medications.

I took my first injection on July 14th, 2023 and am happy to report that in less than 11 months I am 144lbs, have cut out most of my blood pressure medications, and have improved my relationship with food in ways I cannot even describe.

GLP1 medication saved my life.   This is a bold statement, but 100% accurate.   It did not only save my life, because of my physical health issues, related to obesity - but my mental health was spiraling as a result of being so unhappy in my body.   For these reasons, I have become a passionate advocate for GLP1 usage and education.    Those of us using medications like Zepbound, Mounjaro, Wegovy, Tirzepatide, Ozempic, etc. are being ridiculed for taking the easy way out or 'cheating' on our weight loss journeys.  However, if I have learn anything over the past year - it is that obesity is a horrific disease and the perceptions and biases surrounding this disease are outdated, misguided, and in need of major reform.

So, welcome to my little piece of the internet, where I am striving to make a difference in the way we look at obesity and the treatment of obesity as a disease.   While I am not a doctor, I am a huge nerd that believes that everyone deserves a second chance at a life, not weighted in judgement for a medical condition.
